Updates to Our Legal Documents and Messaging Feature

Hello Fighters,

We pushed updates to our legal documentation and messaging system.

Legal and Policy Enhancements:

We've refreshed our legal pages and Terms of Service, and introduced a new Legal and Policy landing page to make these documents more accessible and easier to navigate. By continuing to use our services, you agree to the new regulations. Rest assured, while no substantive changes have been made, we have updated our policies to reflect the latest regulations and compliance decisions. We have distilled the essence of our guidelines into the Community Guidance and House Rules, leaving the detailed legal jargon to the newly structured Terms of Service page.

Messaging Page Updates:

In response to your valuable feedback, we've also updated our messaging feature. The new messenger now opens with a simple text box for ease of use. For those who need more advanced options, the full editor can be toggled on as needed.
The new messenger is now the default, but you can switch to the old one.
However, our old messaging page will be phased out slowly, as it no longer supports the upcoming features.

We also pushed some smaller bug fixes and improvements to our Future Opponents.

Update: 2024-04-13:
  • Mobile and Desktop layout:
    • Changed how the sender/receiver is presented
    • Increased the contrast on light mode
    • Updated the toggle editor button with a new icon and moved it next to the textbox
    • Added missing translations
    • Added link to settings to the Notification indicator
  • Mobile layout:
    • Textbox stays at the bottom
    • Changed the 'enter' key behavior
    • The 'back' button is larger
  • Desktop layout:
    • Max width added

Best Regards,
Admin

I don’t usually comment on these things but I have to say I really don’t like the new messaging format. The old one worked fine from my perspective. I’m usually doing this on my phone and now it keeps prematurely posting messages if I hit the wrong key, and it’s harder to look over messages and switch back and forth.

I agree the messages feature no longer is easy to read it is more like a chat system. Simplicity is sometimes the best think. If it aint broke Do Not Fix it. We want to send messages, but do not need new features on it, it's so simple easy to use and easy to read. Hoping that they leave the option of keeping current message system. LIKE ABOVE person, I do not usually comment on these things. We know Admin works very hard on Meetfighters. But Hope a way can be found to keep old system we appreciate it more

" If it aint broke Do Not Fix it."
This is sadly not how IT works; you have to go with the time to be still compatible and work decently on modern devices. The internet is constantly changing, and websites need to change with them.

What exactly is worse about the new system? If you let us know, we can look into it. But the general message of 'the old was better' is not helping us. Why is it harder to switch back to older messages? You click the back button, which is the same as previously.
In fact, the new messenger on mobile remembers your scrolling position, making it easier to find the right conversation.

We asked for your feedback last time and again, but we really need some more concrete examples.

Everyone, feel free to open a ticket if you want to expand on it and upload a screenshot.

Thanks for your help!

I'm on mobile browser and when clicking on the user details, it is a little difficult to close the window and get back to the conversation view. With the old messenger, you had the back button to make things easier. I also don't like how the user details screen pops up on the screen. The older one was more fluid. Sometimes you need to click the user details icon 3 times to display it! Overall, I think the old back button was more clickable too. The new one seems to be just a character. Is it possible to make the left arrow bolder and bigger, at least?

I agree. The new format is a lot clumsier navigating between messages and user details. I also don't like seeing new messages at the bottom instead of the top.

Sorry to tell, but compatibility issue is worthless if you aren't W3C compliant and don't have a CSS to load according to the media type wanting to see the website (computer, tablet, phone).

Setting up new features has noting to do with compatibility issue, so please use another reason for new cosmetic changes (which could be perfectly legitimated and needed).

I'm skeptical when I read internet is constantly changing, and websites need to change with them and I see the update looks older that what we are now used to about messaging, a.k.a left/right msg shifted depending who writes.

Would be interesting to understand the process that leads to theese changes.

You unilaterally decided newer msg would be now at the bottom as for the previous version, it was at the top. Why? At least, give user the choice with an "ascending/descending" option.

The worst cosmetic mailbox update is the enter key issue. It shall be used to do paragraph, not sending msg. Who asked for that? You don't don't do that on phone google messaging, neither on FB Messenger or IG. It shouldn't be in an advanced mode but in the basic one. And where do we toggle?

You can toggle the full editor; this will prevent the message from being sent if you hit enter.

Touching the notifications bell produces lots of stupid notices about who had a meet with whom even including members who have met themselves.Very odd.

Really wish IT department stop with the BS. If it's not broken leave it the hell alone and no we don't have to go with the times. Maybe IT should go with CUSTOMER SERVICE SUPPORT 🤔 as the CUSTOMERS are the reason IT is exists and are needed.

Just tried the new messenger.
One Positive note : messages are added to the bottom of the list, making it much easier to follow a conversation. 👍
One Negative note : Hitting "enter" sends the message.
I saw the Admin reply that says you can toggle the full editor . . . How do you do that ? The only option I saw was to go back to the old format ?

Ignorant as I am to the world of tech, I’ll assume/trust this was done for perfectly valid reasons. No doubt we’ll get used to it. This is nothing compared to the crap my work IT dept regularly inflicts on me. No need to get your knickers in a twist guys. Just adapt.

Now, if only Admin could devise a system whereby every message I send gets a reply…….that really would be an improvement. Or a miracle.

I concur, the changes are cosmetic and not related to compatibility. There should be a free choice as to which system is used.

Also the notifications that so-and-so just recommended themselves has got to be a bug and does not make the process of communicating with opponents any easier, which of course is the very reason we are here.

One suggestion: can you please put the text in darker color to contrast more with background..seems like background is gray and text is just darker gray, sometimes harder to read. Make text black and bolder if possible. Hard to see the text when using my phone to send messages.

I find the new message system more difficult to distinguish between messages I’ve sent and messages I’ve received in a conversation. In the old message design, they appeared left and right aligned which is a design pattern across many messaging systems. But in the new message design, they just show up all in one long feed with the only visual context being the profile name and the color of the text of the profile name. It’s just not enough of a visual cue, especially for users with eyesight impairments. There should be multiple visual cues to indicate a message received vs a message sent. Alignment and background/outline color should both be included to differentiate. I’m a UX designer myself,

In the below line, the policy still doesn't address fat/body shaming. That's a huge gap in moderation and can (and has) made the site less inclusive and fun.

>Hate speech and racism are strictly forbidden, in private as well as public conversations.

An example is the "I don't like wrestling fat people thread" (I'm paraphrasing, can't remember the exact title) I reported to mods while back and no action was taken. There is no way replacing fat people with a racial term would have had the same lack of response.

Folks, as of today, I am unable to respond to messages or initiate communication. The entire space where I can type (the text space) is no longer there. I am using an iPhone here. Is this a glitch? Sorry for all the troubles you are going through as you are trying to improve the system. Thanks!

I agree with previous posts that the new messenger is inferior to the previous one. On a mobile device, speciality iOS, it isn’t as clear as the old messenger and there have been several occasions where I can’t even access the text box so have had to shut down safari and try again.

And even today. - several times when messaging with someone . , the box goes away for me to be able to respond or continue the chat - so it just stops ! What is that about ?

all I see is that these new "updates" are just moving things around. I can assure you that at least 99% of us don't care to type messages in different fonts and bold or italics. I wanted to be appreciative of the work and thought you put into "improving" the site but the new messenger is just NOT appealing at all. There are older members that may find it all too complex as unlikely as may seem. Also when I tried giving it a chance the cursor kept moving towards the begging of the word I was trying to type preventing coherent typing and having to move the cursor back to the end of what I'm trying to type
not to mention all the new features taking up all the screen and blocking the text, leading to blind typing. I log in from my Android phone. the old version is superior.

I'm not a big fan of change. That being said like it or not it is going to happen. The new message box was a little confusing at first but here I go learning to use it. Hell, Microsoft just changed their mail box to Outlook and yea it too sucks but no choice. Grin and bear it and we all have to get use to change, even if we don't like it.

The old messenger was much better. And all of a sudden now it no longer shows who is online or who is in chat with a blue or green dot.

The way we handle online tracking and online indicators changed in the backend.
The old messenger will be phased out and is no longer maintained.
Over time, more elements might fall apart on the old messenger until we remove it completely.

The main surprise for me is that the side navigation disappears when viewing messages. This not only adds an additional click, but also feels disjointed from the rest of the UX, as though messaging is not a part of the main site.

This was always the case on mobile devices. There is no place on smartphones for a user list and messages next to each other;
I'm unaware of any other messenger that could solve this problem and is able to show both next to each other on mobile devices at the same time. MeetFighters is here no exception; we also show users list and messenges separated on mobile devices from the beginning (or at least since mobile devices became a thing many, many years ago)

This is not the case on tablets (well, maybe very small ones) or desktops.
If the screenspace is available, you see the user list on the left and the messages on the right.
If this is not the case, try to make your browser window larger, or reduce the zoom level if you use one.

I hope that helps.
