Illegal Actions and Holds

In both free style and Greco-Roman Wrestling wrestlers are FORBIDDEN to:

- talk during the contest;
- leave the mat without permission;
- hold and butt (strike with the head) the opponent's face;
- KICK, slap or pinch the opponent;
- pull the hair and twist the fingers of the opponent;
- TWIST the opponent's arms and legs in the direction opposite to the natural flexion of his joints;
- lift and push the opponent in bridge position;
- STRANGLE the opponent;
- bring the opponent down on the head
- grasp the opponent by his singlet, (***) and
- cling to or grasp the mat.
In Greco-Roman Wrestling it is forbidden to hold the opponent below the waist and use the legs for executing holds.

In both styles it is forbidden to execute holds painful for the opponents or holds which may injure him (double Nelson, leg scissors and head lock).
