I have met a few guys on this site that are in to boxing, and many that are in to grappling. Besides MMA in a cage, where anything goes...how many guys mix boxing w/ grappling? Maybe set limits of pec/gut jabs only...? Maybe wear MMA gloves or wrap fists/wrists for a match?

I am new to boxing, never done it, but i enjoy the physicality of punching and being punched, and I love the ability to restrain my opponent and punch his open, vulnerable midsection, as he is pinned underneath me.

Anyone have a healthy mix of boxing and grappling? I'd be interested in how you MiX it UP on the mAtS – Grizz

At my school, which is an official Krav Maga school, we practice what is called Pankration. It comes from the early greeks and is a combination of sparring and grappling, both with punches. In our techniques, we don't do head or groin shots, but in some higher levels, they do. Of course, our standing game also includes kicks, so that is a bit different as well. But I love a good match up of boxing and then taking it to the ground.

GUY thanks man, i have seen pankration fights, they are wicked. i have started taking BJJ classes and will probably expand into Mauh Tai or KickBoxing as well in a few months, then start combining the disciplines all together. I would enjoy meeting you in May/2012 and sparring. Grizz

Watch the clips of Hungarian kempo style "Zen Bu Kan" mixed standup/grappling matches on youtube videos on my profile text. The division you see is from earlier years, uses bare fists so no closed fist techniques to the head or neck, but full force bareknucle punches to body and legs, plus full force kicks to head, body and legs. The 2003 or 2004 competition is up on youtube and linked from my profile on this. A variation is avaiable since, where they use MMA sparring gloves (well-padded gloves for punching with the fingers still open) so now full-force headshots are also available for attackers - at the cost of body punches being padded now and not baraeknuckle as before.

Throws and matwork is also allowed, and you can continut punching and kicking and kneeing while on the ground - but only while both of you are down (so you cannot kick a downed opponent while you are standing, as well as they cannot kick up to you).
