I mostly don't understand unflexed punches. You're fighting your own body's natural instinct to protect itself via flexing, which already feels a bit gross to me, but then, the internal organs that your abs are meant to protect get easily damaged; they can heal, but you still risk leaving them in a state that they can't properly come back from, and then you're stuck like that for the rest of your life even as you continue to eat and digest and do all the other things people do. For the record, I'm not in favour of flexed punches while hanging from a pull-up bar either; I heard it's a good way to get a hernia, and honestly, based on my understanding of anatomy, it makes sense.
I think no matter what you do, your internal organs are going to have to accept the shock from punches; your ab wall isn't going to be able to absorb everything. But at least they should still be healthy enough by the end of it that they can heal, and you can move on.
I think the poetic beauty and sort of 'Shakespearean tragedy' almost of gut punching is that you build your abs up only to have them broken back down, and then you're ultimately left winded and battered and sore. I think unflexed punches are fine, too, i.e. if you're only doing them as foreplay, but for safety reasons, not kink shaming reasons, I wouldn't personally go beyond that.
I mean, I do get the appeal, honestly; it's a form of breath play, no matter what kind of gut punching you do, but it's obviously heightened when unflexed. It's similar to choking for pleasure. Again, possibly dangerous, but okay in small doses.
