The pit is one of those areas that depends on the person I think. I'd describe it as the spot where someone can't take it or take as much as they can elsewhere.

For recovery, when I taught karate, we would always have the winded student raise their arms above their head and take/force deep breaths.

Bellybutton is for me the pit of the stomach. Never been winded, but hope I will get winded, when I'm prepared for it !

I have always thought of the pit of the stomach as the solar plexus itself or maybe just below it. In any event to get punched there hard hurts a lot.

First one, is a very good question. I always thought it was closer to the belly button, but honestly that's just me.

As for recovering from getting winded? Having had that a few times, taking forced deep breaths and protecting your core is the best way to go. Assuming the guy you are fighting isn't going to hit you while your down (let's it's a test or something) laying on your back helps as well.

Hi Guys, there appears to be some confusion about precisely where 'the pit of the stomach' is. It's a phrase some use a lot. But where is it on our midsection? Just below the solar plexus, just above the belly button, or somewhere in the middle. Any thoughts welcome.

Also, a guy punches you very hard in the stomach, a punch you are unprepared for. You are totally winded by the force of the punch, collapse on the floor clutching your stomach, gasping for air. What is the best way to recover from such a heavy winding? Again, comments welcome. Thx!
