1) Streets of Gold (purely for the first boxing scene)
2) Heart (who doesn't like Brad Davies in boxing gloves)
3) Tough Enough
4) Fat City
5) Raging Bull ... 'I don't know if I should fight him or fuck him'
When you guys mention “The Fighter” are you talking about the Mark Waglberg movie to the older one with Gregory Harrison!’? I prefer the later...Gregory Harrison boxing is HOT! Here are mine based purely on hotness:
1. Diggstown
2. Hard Times
3. The Challenger
4. Rocky Marciano
5. Carman: the campion
1. Raging Bull (1980)
2. The Set-Up (1949) Robert Ryan
3. Somebody Up there Likes Me (1956) Paul Newman version.
4. The Harder They Fall (1956) Humphrey Bogart version.
5. The Square Jungle (1955) Tony Curtis
As you can see guys I tend to like the older fight movies, they were more brawling type fights. I find them more exciting then watching technical style fights. Raw, gritty, leather flying, dirty fights.
PunchingBagWanted,
those are great boxing films. I agree they are some of the best.
Another good oldie is The Leather Saint w/Paul Douglas (1956).
Boy I would love to see a good brutal remake of that film today. Bet it would be an even better film if remade.
A couple years ago I heard that a remake of The Setup was going to happen but never saw anything about it.
I wouldn't hold my breath on any remakes being better then the original. The Harder They Fall was nothing like the original and it was terrible in my opinion. The only thing that was the same was the name. Remakes today seem to be just cheap ripoffs of the original stories. JUST my opinion. ;)
Check out the OLDER black &white version of "The Fighter" (1952) with
Richard Conte. The big fight scene at the end of the picture is GREAT!
The movie can be viewed on YouTube for free...the big fight scene starts at 1:03:38.
Love all the boxing movies mentioned so far. Really hard to pick top 5. My picks:
1. Streets Of Gold
2. Rocky Mariano (Jon Favreau)
3. Brutal Glory
4. Gladiator (James Marshall)
5. Teen Wolf Too
